About The DriveSafe Initiative
Teen driving doesn’t just need better training—it needs better decision-making support after the keys are handed over.
The DriveSafe Initiative (DSI) was created to address the real reason teens are involved in serious crashes: choices made behind the wheel. While most safety programs end once a teen passes their driving test, risk doesn’t.
DSI focuses on what happens after licensure, when independence, distraction, peer influence, and developing judgment collide on real roads.
Our approach blends technology, ongoing education, and parental involvement to help teens build safer driving habits that last.
The DriveSafe Initiative provides real-time feedback when risky behavior occurs behind the wheel, encouraging safer decisions in the moment. When unsafe behavior continues, parents are looped in—turning incidents into coaching opportunities rather than punishments. This is reinforced through short, ongoing learning designed to strengthen awareness, judgment, and accountability over time.
Why DSI Matters
Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for teens over 16, and research consistently shows most crashes stem from judgment errors—not lack of driving skill. Adolescents are still developing impulse control and risk assessment, particularly in high-pressure or social situations.
DSI is built around this reality, helping teens rethink the “if/then” decisions they make behind the wheel before risky behavior leads to serious consequences.
Our Founders
Adam Wallingford
Founder & CEOAdam is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The DriveSafe Initiative (DSI). Before starting DSI, Adam spent 10 years as a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State. For four of years, he served as the Driving Safety Program Administrator in Maputo, Mozambique, where he directed the DriveCam Safety Program for the U.S. Mission. Mozambique is one of the most dangerous countries to drive in the world.
In 2020, Adam returned to Nebraska and operated three delivery businesses, employing over 100 drivers for Amazon, FedEx, and OnTrac Logistics. He implemented AI camera technology in these businesses and saw firsthand the impact it had on driver behavior.
As his children approached driving age, Adam realized the most effective safety technology should focus on the best drivers, not just the riskiest ones. This insight led him to found the DriveSafe Initiative in 2025.
